BUFFALO CREEK, LITTLE SCRAGGY TRAIL WORK, July 18th
Our June trail work weekend was another huge success. We completed about 0.8 miles of new trail including some impressive rock work. Our next build day is Saturday, July 18th. All work is done by hand involving using simple hand tools. There’s no experience needed. We provide the tools and guidance so come join us and help us build more trail and better trails.
Directions: From C-470 and Highway 285 (Hampden Ave.) interchange, take Hwy. 285 south, into the mountains, for 20 miles to Pine Junction. NOTE: the Morrison Police love to set-up radar on 285 between Hwy. 8 and Parmalee Gulch Road so obey the 45 mph speed limit. Turn left at the light at Pine Junction onto County Road 126. Follow CR 126 through the towns of Pine and Buffalo Creek for about 17 miles to Kelsey Campground. Kelsey Campground is south of Forest Road 550 (also known as Wellington Lake road) so do not turn right onto 550 Road. Stay on CR 126 for about another 3 miles past 550 Road. Parking is limited in the campground so please park acrossCR 126 as shown on the map below. There will be signs marking the parking area and orange flagging tied totrees marking the way to the campground. If you pass the sign for Kelsey Campground, you’ve gone too far.
We will have coffee and light breakfast available in the morning. After a quick meeting at 8:30 am, we'll hike into the work site. It’s about a 1.5 mile hike each way. We’ll work till around 2:00 pm and then your free to go for aride or just relax. We’ll fire up the grill for our post work, afternoon BBQ so please register so we can plan accordingly and contact you if things should change. And many thanks to Denver Beer Company for providing the adult beverages. If you bring your bike to ride after working, feel free to bring it and your gear with you to the morning meeting. We can lock it in the trailer while we’re working.
Dress in sturdy work clothes including boots, long pants (recommended), work gloves, hat and sunglasses. Remember to bring water, a lunch, sunscreen and a pack to carry them in. A hydration pack works great for this purpose. There will be water available at the staging area. We will be camping in in a different locationthan the staging area and there will not be any water at camp. If you want to camp, please email email@example.com for details.
So come on out help us continue our work on Little Scraggy trail. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Keith Clarke at firstname.lastname@example.org. We’ll see you on July 18th.
