Buffalo Creek Trail Work With Colorado Trail Foundation (CTF) #2
We’re back at it again in 2017, and this year we really need to step on the gas to get much needed additional repairs and critical trail re-alignments completed on Buck Gulch, Strawberry Jack, Little Scraggy, the Colorado Trail and many of the other 21 trails that comprise the Buffalo Creek system. In order to do this, we need your help! COMBA provides the tools and the guidance. No experience is necessary - if you can use a shovel, you are a valuable volunteer!
For each workday, we will meet at 9:00 AM for a quick mission briefing and tools talk. COMBA will provide coffee, juice and a light breakfast with bagels or muffins. We then split into groups of 6-10, each led by an experienced COMBA trail crew leader, before heading up the trail at 9:30 AM to begin the day's work. We normally break for lunch just after noon for 30 minutes, then continue working until approximately 3:00 PM, at which point we head back to the staging area for a sponsored cookout of brats & burgers (including vegetarian burgers) with beverages, followed by an optional ride for those with enough energy left.
For the weekend work parties, feel free to come for a day or spend the weekend and camp with us. The staging area for this work party is a meadow off of FS (Forest Service) road 550. Campsites have been reserved if you would like to camp. To get there from Denver, take 285 to the town of Pine, then left on Highway 126. At 13 miles from 285, turn right on FS Road 550, signed "Buffalo Creek Recreation Area" and go approximately 2.2 miles on this dirt road to a gate on the left with a CTF and COMBA sign. Turn left through the gate and to the meadow. This is a combined event with the Colorado Trail Foundation (CTF), and work will include installing new trail signs and performing much needed trail maintenance on the CT segments 2 & 3.
Please make sure to dress in sturdy work clothes including boots, long pants (recommended), work gloves, hat and sunglasses. Remember to bring water, your own lunch, sunscreen, and a pack to carry them in.
