2012 National Trails Day at Green Mountain Park - A Success!

On June 2nd 2012, 133 volunteers flocked to Green Mountain to assist Lakewood Parks and Recreation, REI and the Colorado Mountain Bike Association for a morning of trail building. We were successful in rerouting the upper Green Mountain Trail near the radio towers. The trail is open, and is a great upgrade from the former loose, wide, unsustainable trail.

Check-in was fast and easy, and you can see trail crews already hiking up ready to build trail.

A fantastic food spread to start the day.

And there was another opportunity to get snacks before hiking up.

It was a picture perfect day with plenty of sunshine.

The trail was all flagged and ready to start digging.

After a few short hours later, the trail was emerging.

Then we kept moving up the trail until our segment was connected with the others.

Then the clouds started rolling in.

Volunteers hiking down when the thunderclaps started.

IMBA's Subaru was there sporting a new look!

Lunch was fantastic; it always seems tastier when you earned it!

There were a lot of volunteers winning prizes at the raffle!

Thanks to Lakewood Parks and Recreation, REI, COMBA members and all the volunteers for a successful event!
